Great post. Certainly in the UK football is seen as 'the opiate of the masses' and anyone who says they're not interested in it becomes a social pariah. It's deliberate - like so much other divisive manipulation going on at the moment at government level.

On a more practical level, if you have a dog and want to walk it the following day you spend the whole time pulling it away from the pools of vomit scattered about the pavement, picking it up (which isn't easy when big) to avoid all the broken glass. That's if it's still alive after all the stupid fireworks that ruined the night and reduced it to a quivering wreck.

Oh, okay. I'll stop now. I came over here looking for stuff about living in France and ended up reading a post about football. heh
